Description

Our Prolongo Prosciutto di San Daniele already sliced for you. Presented in a convenient pack that keeps it fresh for longer and allows you to preserve its unmistakeable character for a long time.

The tray of sliced dry-cured prosciutto is vacuum-sealed with SKIN technology. It has a shelf life of 5 months and should be stored in the refrigerator. Once the tray has been opened, we recommend you eat the prosciutto within about four days, exactly like the fresh sliced one.

To consume it at its best, open the pack, remove the top layer of plastic film and wait a few minutes before eating. This way it will be easier to separate the slices and not lose any of its excellent characteristics!

Looking for a delicious starter? Slice some crusty bread, typical of your region. Place a slice of Prosciutto on a mix of chopped walnuts and goat’s cheese. This is another idea to bring to the table at aperitif time!

Fun fact: those tiny solid granules that you sometimes find in the lean meat are not grains of salt. They are simply harmless crystals of tyrosine. A natural substance deriving from the ageing of proteins and a guarantee of slow, unhurried maturation.

The emigrant’s box

The Emigrant’s Box: Prolongo Prosciutto Crudo di San Daniele … as it used to be

There is a special, long-standing and genuine way to savour  Prolongo Dry-cured Prosciutto: our historic Emigrant’s Box. Originating in San Daniele in the 1950‘s, this little tin box was the way Friulian emigrants took a taste of home abroad with them.

Prosciutto di San Daniele in a tin with a Friulian heart

The brightly coloured box, with its little tin-opener key, contains slices of dry-cured Prosciutto, which have been sliced and arranged by hand on accordion folded deli paper. A craft process that allows the product to be stored for up to a year (when kept in a refrigerator), perfect for long journeys or simply ready to be enjoyed at any time.

An authentic gift, with a taste of home

Genuinely vintage and steeped in history, it is the ideal gift for anyone who lives far away, anyone who loves tradition or simply for anyone who does not want to forgo a slice of real dry-cured Prosciutto di San Daniele.
Prolongo is one of the few companies that still makes Emigrant’s Boxes, thanks to an original piece of machinery from the 1950’s, passed down from Grandfather Giovanni. A rarity that makes each box a little piece of history, waiting to be enjoyed.
